Today's buyers are looking for more cost-effective ways of sourcing suitable suppliers through the Internet. According to a Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) buyer survey conducted in 2009, international buyers are more concerned about suppliers' product quality and services than their price competitiveness. Suppliers therefore need to ensure they have comprehensive and up-to-date company information and product photos available online to attract buyers and reassure them of their credibility.
Studying the suppliers' performance report on the HKTDC online marketplace (www.hktdc.com), we realised that suppliers offering more comprehensive product and company information on their webpages attracted more buyer enquiries than other suppliers. In addition, we found that buyers preferred to approach suppliers whose credentials were verified by third-party authentication companies.
